J. Douglas Branch II founded Phronesis Insights, LLC following a quarter-century on Capitol Hill where he gained extensive federal legislative, policy, communications, political, and administrative experience serving on the staffs of senators, representatives, and congressional committees, including Deputy Staff Director of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), Deputy Chief of Staff to a Financial Services Subcommittee Chairman, and Senior Advisor at the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
His policy expertise includes writing tax provisions in the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, navigating Senate procedure, negotiating legislation signed into law, and fiscal and monetary policy reforms. He has written extensively on these subjects in congressional committee reports and multiple The Wall Street Journal op-eds for the JEC committee chairman. He has developed innovative graphics to make economics relatable to the general public, and he co-founded and moderated an economic forum for congressional staff.
Doug earned a Master of Arts in the Governing of a Republic from the Hillsdale College Van Andel Graduate School of Government; attended graduate seminars at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, affiliated with Keble College, Oxford; and graduated Magna Cum Laude from MidAmerica Nazarene University. He is a former James Madison Fellow, Hoover Congressional Fellow, and Witherspoon Fellow. He currently resides in Northern Virginia with his wife, children, and golden retriever; he also coaches youth baseball.
